Bee Sting Remedy

An effective bee sting remedy is something just about anyone will need at some point. While most bee stings simply bring localized pain, they are usually troublesome enough to require you to give them some kind of attention.

When it comes to bee sting first aid, we naturally turn to our therapeutic essential oils for relief. And we have been doing that lately because the bees have been busy around here.

The primary oil for bee sting first aid is Melrose. This blend is a strong topical antiseptic, which also helps regenerate tissue and reduce inflammation.

Other oils that bring relief are lavender, Idaho tansy, peppermint, and wintergreen. A couple of essential oil blends called Purification and PanAway can be very effective, too.

There's even a bee sting blend that you can mix up. . .

  • 1 drop wintergreen
So, when faced with the need, what's a good bee sting remedy?

Here's a good regimen using essential oils. . .

(from the Essential Oils Desk Reference)

  1. Flick or scrape stinger out with credit card or knife, taking care not to squeeze the venom sack.
  2. Apply 1-2 drops of the Bee Sting Blend on the location. Repeat every 15 minutes for an hour.
  3. Apply any of the recommended blends 2-3 times daily until the redness is gone.

In some cases you may find that you do not have all the oils you would like on hand. That happened to us just recently, but we were able effectively use the oils we had available.

Matthew
Our youngest son was at our neighborhood pool and stirred up some bees under the pool slide. Boy, that made them mad and they stung him six times.

It was time for some bee sting first aid.

I quickly applied Melrose, lavender, and peppermint in layers on the affected areas, and repeated this every fifteen minutes. This worked well, and in a short time I began to stretch out the time in between oil applications.

Before long, Matthew was happily back at the pool. . .

We told him if the bees bother him again he should just jump in the water!

We're all thankful for the effectiveness of our essential oils. They do a fantastic job when it comes to first aid for bee stings.
