The right essential oils can serve as an excellent canker sore remedy.
And that's a good thing, because canker sores can be very debilitating and something most people want relief from fast.
The need for help with canker sores can come upon you quickly.
Canker sores themselves can have various causes.
They may arise from stress, illness, allergies or a weakened immune system.
Canker sores may also be caused by injuries from things like hot food, rough tooth brushing, dentures, braces, or being hit in the mouth.
Preventing Canker Sores
One way to help avoid canker sores and care for them if they appear is to be sure your body chemistry is properly balanced.
When the body is an acid state, it is in a condition where canker sores can flourish. (Cancer and candida thrive when the body is in an acidic state as well.)
A simple way to help the body be in a more alkaline and healing state is through one's diet.
Acid forming foods to avoid include meat, dairy products, wheat or rye bread, coffee, tea, wine, beer, soft drinks, potato chips, and junk food in general. Some excellent alkaline forming foods are lemons, watermelon, grapes, raisins, and vegetable juices.
Relieving Canker Sores with Essential Oils
When someone in our house is hit with canker sores in the mouth, we have a very reliable way of dealing with them. We apply an essential oil blend called Thieves. (In some cases, we might take the amino acid L-Lysine as well.)
Essential oils come in the form of single oils or blends. Thieves is a blend comprised of the single oils clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary cineol.
Together, these oils can give a great boost to the immune system, and we have found that they reduce the lifespan of a canker sore dramatically.
When using Thieves as a canker sore remedy, we apply a drop of it directly to the canker sore. If there is more than one canker sore, or if they are down the throat, a couple of drops of this blend can be put in the mouth and swished around or gargled.
Other single oils that may be effective as a remedy for canker sores are melissa, clove, lavender, niaouli, and sandalwood.
This remedy can be applied as needed until ulcers in the mouth are gone.
