Food Poisoning Remedy
The need for a food poisoning remedy can come upon you suddenly and unexpectedly.
This is because food contaminated with unfriendly bacteria like salmonella or staphylococci can taste perfectly normal. But a short time later (anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours) their miserable effects – like bloating, exhaustion, fever, diarrhea, and vomiting – can overwhelm you. When that happens, an effective food poisoning remedy becomes a top priority. As with most incidents requiring some kind of first aid, prevention is the best. Although avoiding all risks for food poisoning is nearly impossible -- since there are over 200 different agents that can bring about a toxic reaction to food -- there are some precautionary measures you can take.
These measures include. . .- Making sure the food you consume is handled in a sanitary way.
- Avoid food that has been left in the open for an extended period of time, especially in warm weather and at public gatherings.
- Be especially careful with foods that are most commonly traced to food poisoning, like potato salad, sea food, and any undercooked food.
Remedies for Food Poisoning Even the most cautious people are likely to have at least some experience with food poisoning. This is especially true with those who have weak immune systems. So, when you have a pretty good idea you're feeling miserable because of something you ate, you want to know how you can feel better. When it comes to the typical remedies for food poisoning, they usually have a few common elements. These elements include. . . - Bed rest. Your body needs to produce antibodies in the fight against invading bacteria. Since this takes energy, bed rest can help hasten the process along.
- Drink water. When the body is afflicted with food poisoning, it loses a lot of fluids, which can best be replenished with regular sips of water.
- Take in some drink containing electrolytes. This is not as important as replenishing lost water, but making sure your body has the sodium and potassium it needs is necessary for it to function normally.
Another food poisoning remedy that many people have found effective is to drink some flat soda like Coke or ginger ale. This can help settle an upset tummy. One way to quickly flatten a soda is to pour it back and forth between a couple of glasses.
Food Poisoning Remedy with Essential Oils We've been fortunate in that we have not had a whole lot of experience with food poisoning at our house. With any food-related stomach upsets, we go for an essential oil blend called Di-Gize, and we would do the same if a food poisoning remedy were needed.Di-Gize is a blend of a number of essential oils that can bring relief for a variety of digestive troubles. The oils included in this blend are tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, and patchouli. Here are the different ways we use Di-Gize. . . - Add 5 or 6 drops to a cup of water, then swish around in the mouth, and swallow.
- Put several drops in a capsule and swallow.
- Rub several drops on the stomach area followed by a hot compress.
Rich's Experience We have a friend, Rich, who a while back had several bouts with food poisoning. The third time he had it so bad he thought he was going to die. He was miserable and in need of much mercy.Rich's wife, Shauna, had been using essential oils successfully for herself and other family members for about eight months. All this time Rich ridiculed these oils as “snake oils.” But when Shauna suggested he give them a try for this round of food poisoning, he agreed. Within a minute his symptoms subsided and he was able to go to sleep. In the middle of the night he woke up to discover he was still alive. Not only that, his body was all red, which he took as a sign that he was eliminating the food poisoning toxins through his skin. The next couple of days Rich had some itching, but he felt fine and was able to function. This was quite different from his other experiences with food poisoning, which took 2-4 days for him to get back on his feet. This experience with essential oils as a food poisoning remedy also did something else for Rich. It gave him a whole new respect for the power of essential oils.
