Natural Insomnia Relief

Having trouble sleeping? Want to avoid sleeping pills or other medications to induce sleep? Natural insomnia relief can be yours by way of therapeutic grade essential oils.

The causes of insomnia fall into three different categories.

First off, anxiety, depression, and stress are common psychological reasons for sleep difficulties. Second, physical conditions also are a common cause, including hormonal changes, decreased melatonin, pain, sleep apnea, and other medical problems. Finally, sometimes insomnia can be due to a temporary situation like jet lag, noisy surroundings, medications, or adjusting to a new situation.

Whatever the cause, a good natural insomnia remedy is welcome to those who suffer from sleepless nights.

I regularly use essential oils to help with any sleep difficulties. The four oils I use the most are lavender and a few blends called RutaVala, Tranquil, and Peace & Calming.

Lavender is a common relaxant and is even used in some pillows to promote relaxation.

RutaVala is made up of valerian, lavender, and rue. In this blend, the soothing effects of lavender are enhanced by valerian and rue's capacity to bring on sleepiness and drowsiness.

Tranquil is a blend designed to decrease anxiety and promote tranquility.

Peace & Calming can do a great job to uplift and relax when feeling tense or discouraged.

The reason why essential oils function as such an effective insomnia remedy is because of the way their aroma can affect the brain. The small molecules of essential oils have a way of influencing the limbic system of the brain that brings a calming effect to the mind.

The way I apply the oils mentioned above is simple. Typically, I rub one of the oils on my temples, the back of my neck and right under my nose – in addition to the bottom of the feet, which is a great spot. I also apply some to my pillow. When I really want to get a good night's sleep, I use an oil in a diffuser at my bedside as well.

For the greatest effectiveness, I make a point to alternate the oils I use, if applying them several nights straight as a natural insomnia remedy.
