Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)

Do you suffer from restless legs syndrome? If so, you know how uncomfortable and aggravating it can be.

Restless Legs Syndrome is a condition that makes the legs feel uncomfortable, especially in the evening when sitting or lying down.

Although this discomfort is not a sign of any serious problem, it still can be incapacitating.

RLS Symptoms

The symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome have been described with the words:

  • crawling
  • pulling
  • throbbing
  • itching
  • burning
  • twitching

When these symptoms appear, it creates the urge to move, which makes sleeping with restless legs very difficult.

Getting up and moving around can bring some temporary relief, but this certainly isn't a practical solution.

Restless Legs Syndrome tends to get worse as people age.

Finding Relief

Because RLS is disruptive to sleep, it can lead to a lot of fatigue during the day.

Researchers suspect that an imbalance of the chemical dopamine, which is responsible for the control of muscle movement, is what causes Restless Legs Syndrome.

The application of essential oils can be an excellent way to help manage this problem.

Some of the oils and oil blends I've found helpful for RLS are: lavender, Roman chamomile, cedarwood, vetiver, Peace & Calming, Tranquil, and RutaVaLa.

Since everyone's body chemistry is different, the particular oils that are most effective for one will not necessarily be the best for another.

So, you may have to experiment a bit to determine which oils works best for you.

In my own case, I've found the following to be very effective:

This approach has worked so well for me that it's become part of my nightly routine before bed.

Dispersing the oils with a diffuser and applying oils to the chest can be very effective as well.

Again, experimenting a bit to find what brings the most relief to you is a good idea.

But in any case, I can attest from my own experience that essential oils can serve as an excellent natural remedy for restless legs.
